Three thousand years of influence and stratification, such as “sfogliatella riccia”, preserve all the traces of successive dominations, leaving behind historical, cultural, architectural, linguistic, and culinary testimonies.
Naples is without a doubt, the only city in the world that, through the changes of time, has always remained the same. From the allure of the waterfront, with Vesuvius looming above it, to the historic centre teeming with life and beauty, color and music,it is an overwhelming city.
But Naples is also made of light and shadow, culture and ignorance, poverty and nobility. Neapolitans can exorcise, to transform all experiences, even the most dramatic, into something beautiful, yet fleeting, like music.
They have the patience to cook ragu but also the agility to grab pizza on the go. After all, the hypogeum could only be in Naples, the only city capable of being simultaneously the most generous, the most ruthless, the most noble and the most vulgar, the most religious and the most pagan.

Discover Naples from the Hills to the Sea 🌊
Naples is a city like no other — a vertical labyrinth of stairways, ramps, hidden passages, and breathtaking views. It’s a place that rises and falls between the sea and the hills, where chaos and calm coexist in perfect harmony.
Join me for a panoramic walking tour that reveals Naples from its most enchanting angles. We’ll start with a taxi ride to Vomero Hill, an elegant district known for its noble palaces and refined atmosphere. From there, we’ll reach the terrace of Castel Sant’Elmo, the city’s highest panoramic point, offering a spectacular 360° view of the Gulf of Naples (entrance fee: €5 per person).
From the top, we’ll begin our descent through quiet pedestrian areas, stairways, and hidden paths overlooking the city. As we walk, the scenery changes with every step — and you’ll feel as though you’re exploring a different world.
Little by little, we’ll reach the heart of the city, where ancient streets reveal the contrasts that define Naples: elegant and humble, bright and shadowed, chaotic and poetic.
Our route will take us into the lively Pignasecca district, home to Naples’ oldest street market — a true explosion of colors, scents, and sounds. Here, you’ll wander among stalls of fresh produce, wriggling seafood, and fragrant pastries, alongside local casalinghe (housewives) searching for the perfect ingredients. We can even stop to taste a delicious portion of freshly fried fish, prepared right in front of us by local vendors — the essence of authentic Neapolitan street food.
We’ll then continue along one of the city’s main pedestrian streets, arriving at Piazza del Plebiscito, Naples’ grand main square, dominated by the majestic Royal Palace. Along the way, we’ll stop to admire the Galleria Umberto I, the city’s stunning 19th-century glass arcade.
From the square, we’ll stroll toward the Santa Lucia district, a seaside gem of narrow streets and timeless charm. From here, an elevator will take us up to Mount Echia (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Monte_Echia), the little hill were the anciet Greeks founded the city of Parthenope now called Naples where another unforgettable view awaits — the Vesuvius, the harbor, and the shimmering sea below.
We’ll end our tour with a relaxing taxi ride to Marechiaro (Marechiaro naples italy immagini e fotografie stock ad alta risoluzione – Alamy) a peaceful seaside corner of Naples that perfectly captures the city’s spirit — romantic, authentic, and eternally alive.This is a little harbour that represents one of Naples’ most beautiful attractions — a place that has inspired poets and musicians who dedicated treasured works to it. Originally a small, poor fishing village, it is now home to charming restaurants and a quaint beach club where you can sunbathe among the rocks and ancient ruins. Needless to say, it also offers another stunning view of the city from the sea.
On the way back to the city center, we can ask the driver to take a scenic route toward Via Orazio. At this point, depending on how tired you are, you can either enjoy an aperitif at Pacù Bar (https://www.instagram.com/pacunapoli/) or head back to Piazza Vittoria by the sea to savor a traditional Neapolitan pizza at Sorbillo (https://www.sorbillo.it/) .
